WAEC to release results in "debtor states" in 24 hours.

Representatives of some of 13 states initially mentioned among “debtor states” have said they would meet with the examiner to ascertain their exact debts.

States have sponsored candidates in certificate exams to gain support.

The West African Examinations Council says it will release in the next 24 hours student results it withheld because their states refused to pay examination fees.

The council said at a media briefing Wednesday evening it changed its decision to hold onto the results over urgent pleas.

WAEC head Charles Eguridu said this after a meeting with the Nigerian Governors Forum.

Representatives of some of 13 states initially mentioned among “debtor states” have said they would meet with the examiner to ascertain their exact debts.

The debts came from government and political sponsorship of students sitting for certificate exams this May.
