OOU Students Protest Against Killing Of
11 Colleagues In Auto Crash
By Funmilayo Omidiji – Following the death
last Friday, of about 11 undergraduates of the
Olabisi Onabanjo University, (OOU) Ago Iwoye,
Ogun State, some students of the institution
Monday morning took to the highway – the
Sagamu-Ore Expressway, in protest against
the sad development.
The students who converged at the Ilishan
Remo/Sagamu Junction, which is the scene
of the accident, in their hundreds occupied the
two sides of the express and were busy
turning back the road users, especially the
motorists from the two ends of the ever busy
highways.
Eye witness accounts revealed to our
Correspondents that the students who
gathered as early as 10.00am at the take off
point of the protest, expressed grief and
mourned their departed counterparts, by
weeping and chanting curses on the driver
whose truck fell on the bus the students were
traveling with.
It would be recalled the unfortunate
University undergraduates were killed last
Friday around mid-day when a container on
an articulated truck, whose driver was driving
against traffic, rammed into their bus and
killed all the occupants.
The sad development, when the news was
broken, evoked lamentation and sent jitters to
some of the OOU students who have either
made it to their home base for semester
break or about to take off from the campus to
embark on journey to their various
destinations.
