Fayose Under Attack Over Death-Wish On
Buhari
By Niyi Adeyi, Lagos – The opposition All
Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential
Campaign Organization has demanded revocation
of the offensive adverts by the Ekiti State
Governor, Ayodele Fayose in some National dailies
against its Presidential candidate, Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
A statement issued Monday, by the APC
campaign organization, considered the adverts,
which it said, abused Bible and insulted Muslims
as “totally unprofessional and abusive to ethical
codes of journalism”.
The opposition therefore called on the
newspapers to “revoke” the publication
immediately and apologize to the people of
Nigeria, its Presidential candidate and the party
for such folly.
The statement also held that the ruling party and
President Goodluck Jonathan could not distance
themselves from supporting the controversial
advert, as the sponsor was a stakeholder of the
party and a front man of Mr. President’s
campaign.
APC accused President Jonathan and his party as
the first breaker of the peace accord signed by all
the Presidential candidates and their parties in
Abuja last week, accusing them of cruising on lies
and propaganda as they were bent on amassing
and siphoning public funds, without interest of
people at heart.
The offensive Monday publication with the title:
Nigerians: Be Warned! Life And Death, published
on the front pages of the National dailies,
parading three the pictures of former Northern
Nigerian leaders, including late Gen. Muritala
Muhammad; Gen Sanni Abacha and Umaru Musa
Yar’ adua and followed with the picture of
General Buhari with question mark.
The publication has been widely condemned by
Nigerians on both mass and social media. They
described it as total opposite of a party that
project itself as the fold that loves peace and
abhors violence even as they blasted the
sponsors of the advert, Mr Fayose whom they
described as “thug turned governor.”
Fayose’s advert which is heavily criticized is said
to be offensive capable of sparking violent
demonstration in the North.
