9-POINT REMINDER FOR NIGERIANS ON THE TRANSITION OF GOVERNANCE TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMAD BUHARI ON 29th/5/2015
By
Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami
Your Excellencies, my fellow Nigerians,
1) For sure, majority of Nigerians love President Muhammad Buhari (PMB). This love teaches us that for sure he is among our best leaders. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) says: Your best leaders are those whom you love them and they love you, and you supplicate for them and they also supplicate for you.
2) There is urgent need for Nigerians to repent to their Creator from major sins like sodomy, corrupt practices, backbiting, conspiracy and hypocrisy. Because no positive change can be attained in governance without changing our attitude positively through self-judgement. Almighty Allah (SWT) says: Allah will never change the condition of people until they change it within themselves.
3) Good and responsible leader is the most important and dominant factor in attaining good governance as demonstrated in the Qur'an with regard to the leadership of Prophets Muhammad, Moses, Solomon, Dawud and Isa (PBUT). Now we are blessed with a good leader we need to support the leader with sincere prayers, constructive advice and support.
4) Our leaders of today are neither Prophets nor Angels. As a result, they are not infallible. They could make mistakes, we should always admonish and preach to them sincerely, secretly and politely.
5) For those who won election only through the popularity and acceptability of PMB without their personal credibility, should try and rehabilitate themselves and avoid corrupt practices, otherwise what happened in Bauchi is awaiting them in 2019. The Prophet (SAW) says: Whoever steals a needle, Allah has made Paradise prohibited and Hell Fire obligatory for him.
6) Bad governance and injustice are easy while good governance and justice are difficult and require time. We should give sufficient time of at least one year, before we start evaluating their significant achievement. Otherwise, we may mislead them with early judgement.
7) We should avoid approaching leaders with only our personal demand of Hajj Seat, Umrah, Ragon Layya and cars. Let us prioritise our challenges and approach them with communal issues of education, health etc.
8) Let our leaders remember the support and admiration of Nigerian masses they have received and be merciful to the Nigerians. The Prophet (SAW) says: Whoever is not merciful to others, for sure Allah will not be merciful to him.
9) As we dream to see a new Nigeria, we must all be just in our leadership and followership. Shaykh Uthman Bn Fodio said: A Secular Nation can be sustained and promoted with JUSTICE, but a Religious Nation cannot be sustained and promoted with INJUSTICE. On the Day of Judgement, all leaders and followers will stand before Allah and account for their actions- the good, the bad and the ugly.
May Allah guide our leaders and bring back peace, stability, justice, tranquility, provision, cordial relationship and progress to our darling Nigeria,...
