DEBT BURDEN OF 53B
FOR ZAMFARA

Governor Abdul’azeez Yari Abubakar declared
that, one of the challenges he met when he was
inaugurated as Governor in 2011 was the
backlog of debt burden worth over 53 Billion left
by his predecessor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi.

speaking shortly after he takes his second term
oath of office in an occassion held at the Gusau

loan accrued from Commercial Banks and money
meant for the payment of contractors handling
various uncompleted projects initiated by the
Dallatun Zamfara regime.
According to him, his determination to make
Zamfara state debt-free state, made him to
settle a total of 23.8 Billion Naira to various
banks as well as paid over 15.7 Billion Naira to
the contractors handling some of the
uncompleted projects that are now being enjoyed
by the people of the state. On his stewardship
as Executive Governor for four years the Governor
noted that his administration has achieved
greatly in the areas of Education, Agriculture,
Housing, Transportation health and other social
sectors.
The Governor specifically noted that, his
administration has constructed 859.65
Kilometers across the fourteen local government
areas of the state and the projects costs the
state a total of 86,076,864.30 and promised to
construct additional 1200 kilometers during his
second term.
On the health Sector, the Governor explained that
his government has upgraded Kasuwar Daji
Primary Health Center to a full pledge General
Hospital as well as renovated Maru and
Bukkuyum General Hospital while that of Bakura
is under renovation.
For the Agricultural Sector, Governor Yari noted
further that, his administration has procured and
distributed 122,010 Metric Tons of assorted
Fertilizer at the cost of 12,697,024,000 and sales
to farmers at the cost of 1,000 Naira per bag
adding that in his second term in office he will
revive the abandoned ZACAREP Programme in
order to enhance the capacity of Zamfara
farmers.
On the education sector, Yari explained that, his
administration has released the sum of
4,777,559,747 as State Counterpart funds to
UBEC Abuja and after accessing the matching
grants he renovated 265 Schools at the cost of
3,041,144,583,55 as well as constructed 51 new
blocks of three class rooms at the cost of
510,000,000 Naira. He declared that, within his
four years as Governor his administration has
expended 18,048,000,000 on Schools feeding
programme adding that, his initiative to increase
the enrollment drive of the state pupils has made
the figure to increase from 288,410, to 495,081.
Though he was not specific on what his
government achieved in the aspect of water
supply to the citizen, the governor noted that he
will enhance his partnership with the World Bank
to articulate all the 147 Wards to the newly
introduce Semi-Urban Water Project as well as
see to the upgrading of Gusau water barrage to
a full pledge Dam.
On the Housing Sector the Governor declared
that, his administration has facilitated the
construction of 180 Housing Units through public
private partnership at the cost of 657,612,100
and distributed to the State Civil Servants with
generous subsidy.
While blowing his trumpet the Governor promised
to strengthen his existing partnership with the
International Development Partners like SPARC,
SAVI, WORLD BABK, WHO, DFID, UNDP and
UNICEF in order to avail the state citizen with
the socio-economic opportunities…
